Preventive care

Vaccines and preventive care

What is Sun City Kidz Clinic's vaccine policy?

Sun City Kidz Clinic follows the recommended childhood immunization schedule of the American Academy of Pediatrics and does not accept families who decline routine vaccinations or follow alternative vaccine schedules. If you have questions about vaccines, your pediatrician is glad to talk them through with you.

Why does my child need to receive vaccinations?

Immunizations help protect children from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. Following the recommended vaccination schedule is one of the most effective ways to protect children against vaccine-preventable illness.

Sun City Kidz Clinic follows the vaccination recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics. If you have questions or concerns about vaccinations, please talk them through with your Sun City Kidz pediatrician. We would much rather have that conversation with you than have you leave unsure.

Can I meet my pediatrician before my baby is born?

Yes. Sun City Kidz encourages parents-to-be to schedule a prenatal visit. This gives families an opportunity to become familiar with the practice, meet the doctors, and ask questions before their baby arrives. See Prenatal Visits or call (915) 544-5439 to schedule.

How often should my child see the pediatrician?

Children should see their pediatrician not only when they are sick, but also for routine well-child visits. These preventive care visits let your physician follow physical growth and development, provide recommended screenings and immunizations, and discuss behavior, nutrition, safety, development and learning. They also give parents dedicated time to raise questions and concerns.

Routine well-child schedule

  • 3 to 5 days
  • 1 month
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months

  • 30 months
  • 3 years
  • 4 years
  • Every year thereafter

After age 4, the annual health-supervision visit includes a physical exam and an age-appropriate assessment of development, behavior and learning.

What happens during a well-child visit?

Your pediatrician checks growth and development, reviews preventive care and milestones, gives any vaccinations that are due, and takes time for your questions. Well visits are where the longer conversations happen.
